Olympic weightlifting is a sport that consists of three main lifts: the Snatch, the Clean, and the Jerk.
In the snatch, the snatch is a wide gripped single movement, lifting the bar as high as possible while pulling yourself under the bar into a squat position then standing. The clean has a shoulder wide grip. You pull the bar off the floor and lift it up to your shoulders (called the rack position), and, in the same motion, lower into a full front squat and then stand back up. The jerk is a two-part lift in which the barbell is first brought from the floor to the front rack position, then dipping and punching the bar overhead.
Olympic weightlifting is often confused with powerlifting, which consists of three main lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. While both sports require immense strength and power, they are two very different disciplines. Olympic weightlifting places a greater emphasis on technique, speed, and coordination, while powerlifting focuses on raw strength and power.
